Floating Candle Centerpeices

Floating candle centerpieces can be quite stunning, even for those on a budget. They are easy to create and look good no matter what type of event you are using them with. With a few simple items, you can have a beautiful centerpiece that can be used for any purpose whether or not you are having a wedding or using them for everyday use. For everyday use, they can make a drab space look fabulous.

Things you Need:
  • Floating Candles
  • Water
  • Round Glass Container
  • River Rocks or Seashells
  • Optional: food coloring

Step One:
Thoroughly clean out the round glass container that you have chosen to use for your floating candle centerpieces. Wipe it clean with a paper towel so that there are no smudges or fingerprints to reflect through the water. If you are using these centerpieces in a wedding, you want to make sure you use gloves or a soft cloth when handling the glass containers to keep them clean.

Step Two:
Place the river rocks or seashells in the bottom of the round glass container that you just filled. Make sure that you only put in enough to cover the bottom of the container. Do not overlap them and be sure that you use the smallest ones before using up all the bigger ones because the candles will have a hard time floating over the top of them.

Step Three:
Place the floating candle in the center of the round glass container on top of the seashells or round river rocks. You want to do this before adding water so that it does not overflow onto the table potentially ruining things by adding the water first.

Step Four:
Place the floating candle centerpiece in the place that it is going to stay. Again, you want to move it before you add water so that the water does not slosh all over and create a mess to clean up.

Step Five:
Add water to the centerpieces using a pitcher or water bottle. Fill the round glass container until the candle rises above the round river rock or seashells and can float freely around the bowl without scraping anything. In most cases, this is nearly to the top of the glass container.

Step Six:
If you have chosen to, add the food coloring to the water. Add it one drop at a time to get the color that you are looking for. Keep in mind that when you are adding food coloring that it will more than likely stain the round glass container as well as the seashells or river rocks and the bottom of the floating candle. If you do not like care about staining, then add as much as you would like. Keep in mind that if the table is bumped, the colored water can slosh onto the tablecloth and stain that as well.

Turn a Romantic Date into a Night to Remember with Floating Candles

Floating candles are the perfect embodiment of romance due to their prominent placement in pools and other ponds of water. They have been used time and time again to symbolize love and devotion in the films, which is why you may want to think about creating a romantic night by utilizing floating candles. While it may seem like pulling off the perfect ambience would be a hard task, setting up a romantic scene by using candles is a lot simpler than you may think.

For instance, if you have an outdoor area you may want to think about placing some floating candles in a pond or pool to illuminate the night. By setting up a dining area outside of the patio area you and your date will be able to watch the flames flicker off the water and illuminate the patio area creating a very unique ambience that your date will not forget. Even better, if you toss in some sand around the patio you can turn the area into a great beach area bringing the shore to your date even if you live inland and romantic walks on the beach are out.

Some people also use sand to hold floating candles as a stabilizer around outside areas to create a unique ambience. This is great if you do not have a patio but simply want to light up a garden area or your backyard. Given the fact that bugs and insects can be big pests during the summer months, you may want to consider getting bug candles so that you can romantically light up the backyard while keeping the pests away at the same time. Your date will be grateful that not only is the yard perfect, but there are no intruders on your special night.

Finally, if all else fails you may want to think about simply placing some candles on the table as a centerpiece. By placing floating candles in the water instead of simply in a vase you will add some elegance to the display which every girl loves.

Top off a romantic evening with candles

Candles are widely known as mood setters, but when used uniquely candles can transfer an amazing evening into an enchanting evening that will never be forgotten. If you have romance on your mind and want to create the perfect evening, you may want to take a page from one guy’s romantic book in which he created an evening that not only charmed his girlfriend, but won her heart forever.

Ted knew that his girlfriend missed her home state of Hawaii widely, but due to the high prices of airfare she was not able to visit for several years. So instead, he decided to create a widely creative date in which he would bring Hawaii to her by transforming his backyard patio into the beach side.

Ted purchased a large amount of sand to place around his hot tub in a heart shape and then placed shells in a heart shape around the tub. Inside of each shell he placed tealight candles that he told her represented the energy and spirit of the seashore that she missed from home. He also told her that each flame was meant to symbolize the flickering waves that washed up on the shoreline.

He filled the hot tub with 365 red floating candles and stated they represented the days she would have to spend with him before she could go home. Then he asked her to slowly blow out each candle to symbolize how quickly the days would pass as long as they shared them together. When only one candle was left, he pulled out a ring box and stepped down on his knee in hot tub and told her that on the last day of the year, she would head home with him because they would be married along the shoreline of her home if she would have him. Needless to say, she quickly blew out the last candle, said yes, and jumped into his arms.

Now every year on their anniversary they light a candle for each year they have spent together and let them burn the entire night to symbolize their everlasting love.

Add enchanted lighting via floating candles

Lighting is one of the simplest and cheapest ways of making both indoor and outdoor spaces enchanting with little effort. This is because casting light in the perfect manner can create ambience, spark, and even a bit of fun depending on what type of event you are attempting to add a little spice to. One perfect vehicle for accomplishing this perfect type of ambience is floating candles.

Floating candles have the ability to be used for many occasions from wedding centerpieces, to baby shower decorations, to table centerpieces in general at an open casual party to simple use on a pool or on the patio. The method in which you choose to display them simply depends on the mood you are aiming to create; here are just a few examples.

As a centerpiece floating candles are a great way to create an eye catching effect. All you need to do is take a clear vase of glass bowl and the candles clearly catch people’s eyes. For an even strong enhanced effect add some crystals, stones, and shells. Of course, you can just allow them to float in water or add a mirror under the vase in order to add an extra effect.

If you have a pool and are planning on some early spring or late fall parties, you may consider using your pool for decoration since swimming is out of season. Before you put any floating candles into the pool, make sure that you turn off any waterfalls or other areas they may drift under and of course turn the filter off. The shine of the candles off the water will bring an incomparable look to your outside patio area.

Finally, if you want a quick casual way to spice up an outdoor party and you do not have a pool or some vases lying around consider grabbing some shells from a party store and set them around your porch or patio along sand so they stay in place. Add a floating effect and you will have a simple beach atmosphere without spending much or putting forth too much effort.

Alternatively, going for a quite dip in your pool at night when it's ablaze with floating candles bobbing about, and flickering in a gentle breeze, makes for an unforgettable experience.

Also, if you really want to attract attention to your party organizing skills, then why not do so with candles. Burning candles on the tables that look like a real-life cocktails, complete with glasses and trimmings, is bound grab people's attention. Alternatively, Jell O Bowl candles made from gel wax also make for a great conversation piece. Just make sure you light them though, or else you could have the kids trying to tuck in, especially if they're scented accordingly.
